From Army to Artist

Some people find their way to art through a class, a mentor, or a moment of inspiration. For me, the path was longer and more personal than that. It was a dream I shared with my mother — a quiet promise that someday, the creativity I carried through life would find a place to live. After years of service in the US Army, I came home and built that place from scratch: a home studio in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where military discipline and a lifelong passion for craft converge in every piece I make.

Ash & Ember Art Studio is a one-person operation, and that is entirely intentional. I work in charcoal, pyrography (wood burning), and laser engraving on wood and slate — mediums that demand patience, precision, and a steady hand. There are no templates here, no assembly lines, no shortcuts. Every commission begins with a conversation about what matters to you and ends with something made entirely from that story. Whether it is a portrait of a family member, a tribute to a fallen soldier, a mythical creature from your favorite campaign, or a custom piece rooted in South Carolina's landscape and culture, the process is the same: your vision, rendered with the kind of care that only comes from doing this work by hand.

Military service leaves its mark on everything. I bring that precision to every commission — not as a gimmick, but as a genuine part of who I am and how I work. Ash & Ember's mission is straightforward: Your Vision is Our Mission. That means no piece leaves the studio unless it earns it.

What you commission here is not decoration. It is something built to last, built to mean something, and built specifically for you. Ash & Ember does not offer limited runs or reproductions. Every piece is an original, made for one person, carrying one story.

If you have something in mind — a portrait you have been putting off, a military commemorative piece you have wanted to give, a fantasy scene that lives only in your imagination right now — reach out. A commission starts with a conversation, and that part is easy. Tell me what you are looking for, and together we will figure out exactly how to bring it to life.
